Youth basketball drills

For those just starting out playing basketball, the game should be all about having fun. These drills will show you how to make sure the kids enjoy themselves while they learn the basics of basketball.

PCPP( stands for pass, catch, pivot and pass)

Three players are lined up in a straight line approx. 30ft. apart
A player on either end starts with the ball.
This players slap on the ball starts the drill and is a signal for the player in the middle to cut towards him to receive a pass from him.
The middle player cuts towards the passer, receives the pass that is thrown to him and completes a legal stop(jump stop or one two stop).
After making the catch and stop, this player makes a legal pivot and passes to the player on the other end. After this pass is caught by the ender the middle player cuts towards the ender and receives a return pass from him where apon the middle player again completes a legal stop, pivot and passes to the player on the other end.

Keep It Bouncing

This is a nice way to improve dribbling skills and play a game at the same time. Every player has a ball in a measured area.

Hot Hands

This is a fun and easy way to teach children what traveling is and how to avoid doing it.

Head’s Up

Easy dribbling drill for all ages

Gopher Ball

Players start at 1/2 court circle or free throw circle. Teach players to react quickly to loose ball. – Go quickly into Offense.

Bean Bag Game

Players must be able to continue dribbling the ball while picking up and dropping bean bags.

Ball Scramble

Players start in a confined area. Each player has a ball.

Basketball categories

Ballhandling 160Probably the most basic of basketball skills, but sometimes the most neglected. These drills will show you how to develop ballhandling skills. Remember that weak hand!
Big man 36Perhaps more than any other position on the team, the big man needs drills to perfect inside and post-up moves.
Combination 74Drills that combine other skills, and puts emphasis on technique and fundamentals.
