Lead Pass to Lay Up

Form two lines under basket on either side of lane. Players partner up with someone in opposite line. Player #1 without ball starts at elbow player #2 with ball starts on baseline.
Both players sprint toward opposite end basket and player #1 makes pass over imaginary defender trailing player #2.
Player #2 catches ball and goes in for lay up.
Players change positions to come back the other way.

Variations

  • A third player may be added to act as defender trailing lead offensive player. This gives the player with ball someone to actually pass the ball over.

Tips

  • Emphasize that the pass should be out in front of leading player and toward basket.
  • This is an excellent drill for younger players who have a bad habit of making short passes or throwing ball out of bounds.
