Really tough run-around

This will make a hell of a runner out of you…Or it will kill you.

Instructions

You get everybody to line up in a line behind either the coach (or captain) who is at the front of the line. They then begin running at a fairly slow pace. The person at the back of the line must run around the entirety of the court, sprinting to catch up to the front of the line. They then take their place behind the lead runner, who calls out for the next runner to go. If a player is at the front, then the sprinter simply goes to the front of the line. They continue until all players are back in their original positions. You then repeat the drill after changing directions by bisecting the court and turning.

Variations

The pace of the lead runner reflects the shape in which the players will be in. I suggest slow at the beginning of the season, improving to a considerable pace by the end of the season.

You can also choose to do this several times, but be sure to be prepared for the worst (passing out, barfing, etc.)

Tips

You should encourage the entire team to stick together. It will teach them both endurance and teamwork.

I would recommend this for high school teams only, as the amount of running is stressful on even the fittest players.

Skills

Endurance and sprinting.
