Vegas Drill

Hard working defensive drill which helps conditioning a lot.

Instructions

The leader or coach with a basketball stands at the top of the arch facing basket. Players line up in key facing coach (make sure they are at least arms distance apart and are all in line with the hoop). Other players go to side 3 on left side and stand even with a player.

The leader has 7 different commands:

  1. STANCE: Players get into defensive stance
  2. MOVE FEET: Players in stance pattering feet
  3. CHARGE: Players set feet and take charge
  4. LOOSE BALL: Coach rolls ball and ALL players dive for ball
  5. CLOSEOUT: Players closeout on players at left 3
  6. FLY AT 3: Players fly (jump by) the players’ on the 3’s shooting arm(no contact)
  7. The leader should say all the commands at least three times before saying RED, which means closeout and follow the ball because player on 3 has lost dribble.
  • When you say red it means drill is over, then rotate players on wing to key and vice-versa.
  • If you are one or two, no people on wing.
  • One person: Say commands in mind and pretend there is a player at 3.
  • Two people: One commands, the other obeys.

Note: Every time after command, player gets back in key and starts pattering feet in stance until next command.
