Wall ball

Intercepting passes, crossovers, and loose dribbling.

Instructions

Holding a basketball, stand slightly further than arm’s length in front of a wall. Bend your knees and get into defensive position.

Throw the ball haphazardly to the wall, then tap the ball back onto the wall as many times as you can, without letting the ball hit the ground.

If the ball hits the ground, treat it like a loose ball. Dive at it, or grab it hard with two hands to protect it.

Variations

  • Once this gets too easy, use a smaller basketball, or a tennis ball, or find a wall that is not completely flat.
  • Start further away from the wall and gradually move in closer.

Tips

Use your footwork and your knees to get into position so you are not stretching too far to tap the ball back. Stretching out too far can easily get you called for a reaching foul.
